Our Commitment to Climate Education

At Brougham Street Community Nursery School, we take climate change education very seriously. We believe that even our youngest children can develop a deep respect for the environment and begin to understand the importance of caring for the world around them.

Reducing our carbon footprint and living in a more sustainable way are high priorities across our nursery community. We model environmentally responsible choices every day—whether that’s through mindful use of resources, recycling and reusing materials, or making energy-smart decisions within our setting.

Our Forest School approach is embedded throughout our curriculum and provides children with meaningful, hands-on experiences in nature. These sessions help nurture curiosity, resilience, and a lasting connection to the outdoors.

Our outdoor spaces, including our much-loved allotment, are integral to our daily routines. Children grow, harvest, and explore within these environments, learning first-hand about the natural world, the seasons, and how small actions can make a big difference.

By weaving sustainability into everything we do, we aim to inspire children, families, and our wider community to protect our planet—today and for the future.

The sustainability and climate change strategy for education states: “By 2025, all education settings will have nominated a sustainability lead and put in place a climate action plan.

Jonelle (our Headteacher) is our Sustainability Lead. We have developed our own Climate Change Action Plan to show our commitment to delivering a sustainable offer here at Brougham Street.
