While attendance at an Early Years setting is not a legal requirement, we strongly believe that regular attendance plays an important role in helping children to feel secure, confident, and ready to learn. Attending nursery consistently allows children to build strong relationships, settle into familiar routines, and fully benefit from the rich learning and development opportunities we provide. Continuity and consistency from an early age support children’s wellbeing and help lay strong foundations for their future learning and development.

Once your child is registered here at Brougham Street, we have a clear duty of care to ensure their safety, wellbeing, and happiness at all times. We also have a responsibility to ensure value for money,  however, we believe that what we offer goes far beyond funded hours alone.

For many children, nursery is their first experience of spending time away from the security of their parent or carer. It is a place where they begin to form new attachments with trusted adults, explore new and spacious environments, spend time with other children, and learn both independently and as part of a group. Through these experiences, children develop confidence and independence in their thoughts, ideas, and actions.

We understand that learning and development can only truly begin when a child feels safe, valued, and respected. Children need love, and they need play, to develop the skills required to grow, learn, and flourish (Froebel). We recognise that every child is born with immense potential and we encourage each child to learn in their own unique way, supported by knowledgeable educators who know them well and always act in their best interests (Te Whāriki).

At Brougham Street we provide a welcoming, well-organised learning environment that supports and celebrates every learner. Great care and attention are given to our environment, as it is a fundamental part of our pedagogy. We see the environment as the ‘third teacher’, alongside adults and other children, with the power to inspire creativity, thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, questioning, experimentation, and communication.

Good attendance (above 96%) and punctuality play an important role in promoting positive outcomes for children. When children miss nursery, they miss out not only on valuable learning opportunities but also on shared experiences, friendships, and fun. Regular attendance helps children to feel secure, settled, and ready to make the most of everything nursery life has to offer.
